Strategic Planning - How to make it meaningful.

I came across a nice article in WSJ talking about "executives discovered that strategic planning doesn't always work."  It gives examples of companies like Office Depot and Spartan Motors that are looking at the data on a monthly basis and making strategy level decisions.

For the biggest point is that companies are moving from trying to predict the future to look at scenarios and making decisions to make the plans. I think Walt Shill of Accenture said it best in the quote in the article: "Corporate clients decided that increased flexibility and accelerated decision making are much more important than simply predicting the future.
